All racers must be able to ride the ski lifts unassisted and ski the terrain at Bradford Mountain (and other member mountains) with a degree of comfort and control. All Racers must be able to independently return to where their team is practicing and find their way around the mountain. BST is intended to be a learn to race program, not a learn to ski program.
BST Registration Fees
Team registration fees do not include lift tickets.
Team registration fees pay for our coaches, the Buddy Werner League (BWL) fees, Ski Bradford mountain fees, on-hill race equipment (e.g. drills, timing equipment, brushes and stubbies etc...), and all other expenses relating to practices and races. All administration and coordination of the program is done by volunteers.
Grouping of skiers is done according to the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) guidelines. Your child's age classification is determined by their birth year or their age as of December 31 of the current ski season.
The age groups for the 2016/2017 season are divided as follows:
U19- Ages In Season (as of 12/31/2016): 18, 17, 16 Year of Birth: 1998/1999/2000
U16- Ages In Season (as of 12/31/2016): 15, 14 Year of Birth: 2001/2002
U14- Ages In Season (as of 12/31/2016): 13, 12 Year of Birth: 2003/2004
U12- Ages In Season (as of 12/31/2016): 11, 10 Year of Birth: 2005/2006
U10 - Ages In Season (as of 12/31/2016): 9, 8 Year of Birth: 2007/2008
U8 - Ages In Season (as of 12/31/2016): 7 and younger Year of Birth: 2009
BST offers a chance for U12, U14, U16 and U19 skiers to register as Enhanced skiers. Skiers who have raced with BST for at least one year are eligible. If you are a new, but advanced skier, please contact the BST Enhanced Representative regarding registration. U10 skiers may be asked to join the Enhanced program, following evaluation by coaches during the ski season. Skiers do not need any special race ranking or ability, just the desire to get some additional training and races outside the Buddy Werner League (BWL). Racers should be aware that the races and some practices occur on bigger mountains and it is necessary that skiers be able to safely ski this terrain in a controlled manner.
In order to participate, skiers must select the Enhanced U-group that corresponds to their age. BST will charge Enhanced skiers an additional fee atop the fee associated with the regular registration for their age category. Additionally, skiers must be registered members of The United States Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA) if they intend to compete in USSA races. Visit their website (www.ussa.org) for information and USSA fees. Late fees may apply after October 15.
BST will select a number of USSA & Tri-State races that correspond to races held on Saturdays and during school vacation weeks. These races are in addition to the EMBWL schedule and will not interfere with the EMBWL schedule. They do not count toward the minimum number of races required to qualify for participation in the league championship race. If a threshold number of BST skiers commit to a given race, BST coach(es) will staff the race. Transportation, entry and ticket fees are the responsibility of the individual skiers.
